Courthouse, where the end of the Civil war papers were signed and head for the National D-Day Memorial site at Bedford, VA. These pics are from there.
We entered the Blue Ridge Parkway at 1:30 pm after a small lunch outside of Bedford. We seen the bad fire in town but not sure what happened, lots of sirens, so we stayed out of town heading to the parkway.
First thing I noticed when we entered and continued down the road was the safety corridor that is set for easy site of animals and cars as you travel around curves. No road signs to speak of. One every now and then which says "Blue Ridge Parkway speed limit 45 MPH". Many curves but no signs. It really makes being out in the country beautiful and peaceful even with the fog we went through for a while. There were some signs "road construction for next 14 miles"... Glad it really wasn't construction----- they were hydro seeding the 14 miles because the construction was complete. The fellow doing the spraying must have been really weak because the hydroseed was mostly on the road and not on the side of the road. Needless to say, 4DATUDE may start growing grass soon and turned a pretty green..
Then we headed to Floyd, VA, well known for it's "Bluegrass music every Friday Night festival at the Floyd General Store".
Glad to know that you are headed south. Hope the rain disappears before you get there. We are off to the Auburn game tonight against W Va. Jim and Teresa are going with us. Safe travels, and love to you both.
